the art of guiding healers

A 501.c3 nonprofit public benefit corporation dedicated to psychoeducation and supervision for the next generation of mental healthcare healing professionals

Mission Statement

Humans are born without instincts – we must be taught everything. Especially how to care for others. Licensed therapists are required to have a minimum education of a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy, plus 3,000 hours of supervised work experience as a Trainee/Associate. Most work sites provide adequate supervision, discussing cases and how the worksite requires therapy to be conducted. At The Art of Guiding Healers we strive to go far above minimum requirements. We seek to ensure the next generation of mental healthcare professionals understand the very latest theories of how dysfunctional behaviors are created, what said dysfunction looks like in different psychosocial settings, as well as to how various psychotherapy theories propose to support clients in their behavioral changes. Associates are emotionally supported in the work setting, encouraged to engage in adequate selfcare, and are financially supported in expanding their knowledge through continuing education seminars.

vision statement

Pain travels through family lines until someone is ready to heal it in themselves. By going through the process of healing, the poison chalice is no longer passed onto the generations that follow. It is incredibly important and sacred work - striving to be the therapist trained to connect the dots, allowing the necessary insight so that clients stop the cycle of dysfunction. The Art of Guiding Healers exists to equip the next generation of mental healthcare professionals – readying them for the day people suffering with mental illness are not ostracized by friends, family, coworkers – when there is no longer a stigma attached to needing/seeking help for mental illness.

our corporate culture

Our Board of Directors, and our Clinical Supervisor in particular, have worked hard to create a corporate culture in which Associates working towards their 3,000 hours of experience, are proud to say they are part of the clinical team at The Art of Guiding Healers. For instance, great care was taken in choosing the nonprofit corporate name. There are multiple meanings in our name: The noun “Healers” has 2 meanings here; first, people in need of being healed, and second, the people who help others to heal. The third and fourth meanings are in the phrase “the art of guiding” which is what our Clinical Supervisor provides to the Associates, who then, in turn, provide guidance to their Clients seeking emotional healing. And, finally, of course, all healthcare is “a practice” – an art form if you will.

The art of supervising and caring for Associates is a calling to our Clinical Supervisor, Dr. Mickey. Unique among worksites, rather than being in competition with one another, Associates are fostered in recognizing their commonality, allowing for a community atmosphere offering mutual respect, sharing of knowledge learned outside of supervision, and genuine lifelong work friendships. This is a worksite Associates want to be a part of.
